New York City launches "trash revolution" with hard-lidded bins for food businesses, set for residential buildings by 2026.
New York City is launching a "trash revolution" to address overflowing waste and the rats that feed on it. Since March, over 200,000 food businesses have been required to use hard-lidded bins for garbage storage. By 2026, residential buildings will also be required to adopt such containers, inspired by approaches in cities like Barcelona, Madrid, and Buenos Aires. A pilot program is underway in Manhattan's Harlem neighborhood.
