20-below temperatures have become rarer, occurring half as often as before, according to John Wheeler. In Fargo and Grand Forks, 11 winters have had no readings below -20 degrees, with six of those occurring in the last 30 years. Prior to 1994-95, temperatures of -20 or lower happened 10 times per winter in Fargo and 11 times in Grand Forks; since then, the rate has dropped to around five per winter.
