Texas Appeals Court upholds injunction blocking state from investigating transgender children's medical treatments.
The Texas Appeals Court upheld a lower court's injunction that blocked the state from investigating parents providing their transgender children with gender-affirming medical treatments. Texas Governor Greg Abbott had ordered the state Department of Family Protective Services to investigate families whose children received puberty-blocking treatments in February 2022. The appeals court in Austin upheld the district court judge's injunction, delivering a victory to LGBTQ groups, medical professionals, and civil liberties advocates. Texas now restricts gender-affirming care for youth as part of more than a dozen states that bar young transgender people from receiving certain puberty-blockers and hormone therapies.
