Special Olympics Maine founder, Melvin "Mickey" Boutilier, is accused of grooming and sexually abusing a boy for two decades; organization aware of his abuse history, currently investigating.
Special Olympics Maine founder Melvin "Mickey" Boutilier is accused in a lawsuit of grooming and sexually abusing a boy over a span of two decades. The plaintiff, who was not a Special Olympics athlete, alleges that the organization knew about Boutilier's history of abuse and should have stopped him. Special Olympics International and Special Olympics Maine have expressed shock and sadness at the allegations and are currently investigating. The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, comes after Maine loosened the statute of limitations on civil lawsuits for childhood sexual abuse.
