1 person died and another was seriously injured in a crash on State Highway 5, Whakarewarewa, south of Rotorua. The crash, involving two vehicles, was reported to police at 5:05 am. The road is expected to remain closed for some time, and motorists are advised to take alternative routes. The number of injured individuals is currently unknown.
