China has launched the construction of phase II of its Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), a first-of-its-kind research facility providing intense pulsed neutron beams for scientific research. The upgrade, which includes building 11 new neutron instruments and user laboratories, aims to boost China's scientific and technological innovation while increasing the proton beam power to 500 kW from the current 100 kW.
