33-year-old inmate Matthew J. Ornellas Jr. died after escaping Kauai Community Correctional Center in Hawaii and being hit by a vehicle. Ornellas scaled a fence with razor wire to escape and was pursued by correctional officers before being found with severe injuries near a highway. He was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The hit-and-run driver is still being sought by police.
