Walden University agrees to $28.5M settlement over false advertising on degree completion times for Black and female students.
Walden University, a for-profit college, has agreed to a $28.5 million settlement after facing accusations of targeting Black and female students with false advertising about degree completion times. The class-action lawsuit alleged that the university prolonged projects required for Doctorate in Business Administration degrees, generating excess tuition and fees. The proposed settlement requires court approval and, if approved, would see Walden disclose cost and completion time on its website and restructure its dissertation committees.
