Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee appoints Dr. Staci Fischer as acting health director, effective end of March, replacing Dr. Utpala Bandy who retires. The state has been without a permanent health director since January 2022. Governor McKee plans to present a nominee to the Senate for confirmation soon and increase the health director's base salary to $250,000, the highest among state department heads.
