North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper's second-term Cabinet secretary for military and veterans affairs, Walter Gaskin, is retiring, and former state legislator Grier Martin will succeed him, effective Monday. Martin is currently the assistant secretary of defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs at the Pentagon. Gaskin, a retired three-star Marine Corps general, served in the role since 2021.
