Nonprofit Alley Cat Allies sues US National Park Service over plan to remove 200 stray cats in Puerto Rico.
Nonprofit group Alley Cat Allies sued the US National Park Service over a plan to remove 200 stray cats from a historic district in Puerto Rico. The organization announced the lawsuit four months after the federal agency announced plans to contract an animal welfare organization to remove the cats surrounding a historic seaside fortress in Old San Juan. The contracted organization would decide the fate of the trapped cats, who may be adopted, placed in foster homes, kept in a shelter or face other options. The National Park Service has not commented on the lawsuit.
