Meta is ending the Facebook News tab in the U.S. and Australia due to criticism over misinformation and political polarization.
Meta is scaling back news and political content on its platforms, and will sunset the Facebook News tab for users in the U.S. and Australia in early April. The feature was shut down in the U.K., France, and Germany last year. While the News tab will no longer be available, users will still be able to view links to news articles and news organizations can continue to post and promote their stories and websites. The change is in response to years of criticism regarding the platform's handling of misinformation and its impact on political polarization.
