Iowa's recent rain and snow have reduced severe and extreme drought in Northwest, Eastern, and Southeast Iowa.
Iowa's recent rain and snow have eased drought conditions across the state, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Hydrology Coordinator Tim Hall. The improvement has been significant, particularly in Northwest, Eastern, and Southeast Iowa, where severe and extreme drought have been reduced or disappeared. However, Hall warns that the benefits of this precipitation could be lost if the state experiences another dry spell like the one in February. The current drought, lasting nearly four years, is the longest in Iowa since the 1950s.
