Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has stepped down from his position after being charged with historical sex offences. Donaldson, who had been a member of Parliament since 1997, had returned the party to powersharing in Northern Ireland just weeks prior to the announcement. The party suspended him pending the outcome of the judicial process and appointed Gavin Robinson as interim party leader.
