UN Secretary-General Guterres appoints Kamal Kishore, a top NDMA official, as special representative for disaster risk reduction.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Kamal Kishore, a top official at India's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as his special representative for disaster risk reduction. Kishore brings over three decades of experience in disaster risk reduction, climate action, and sustainable development at various levels. He will serve as the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction's (UNDRR) assistant secretary-general and special representative of the secretary-general for disaster risk reduction. Kishore has previously led the G20 Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction during India's G20 presidency and contributed to the development of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019.
