29 sea lion pups have been tagged in Dunedin, setting a new record for the area and marking a significant increase from last season's 21 pups. Coastal Otago Biodiversity Ranger Jim Fyfe says this reflects the growing and widespread presence of sea lions along local beaches. The first sea lion to breed on the mainland, known as Mum, had her first pup in Dunedin in 1993.
