Nigeria's Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has established the Mining Marshal Corp, an inter-agency security force of 2,220 personnel, tasked with cracking down on illegal miners and enforcing compliance with the country's mining laws. The first batch of 60 marshals, drawn from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, has been deployed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The Mining Marshal Corp aims to secure the mining environment and will integrate officers from other sister security agencies to enhance its operations.
