Nigerian engineer Kemisola Bolarinwa has developed a smart bra that utilizes nanotechnology to detect early-stage breast cancer using portable ultrasound devices. Founder of Nigeria's first wearable technology startup, Nextwear Technologies, Bolarinwa's invention was inspired by the loss of her aunt to breast cancer. The smart bra prototype was unveiled in 2019, and while still in development, Bolarinwa aims for mass production by late 2022 or early 2023, pending further clinical testing.
