Montreal aims to increase landlord accountability amid housing crisis by conducting 10,000 housing inspections this year, investing $30,000 in an online rent registry, and alerting mortgage creditors when a building is not up to code. Mayor Valérie Plante wants to go beyond fines and accelerate buildings being brought up to code. The city is also targeting building owners who aren't upholding their responsibilities.
