Researchers in China have developed an implantable battery that runs on oxygen in the body, potentially extending the life of medical devices like pacemakers and neurostimulators. The sodium-oxygen (Na-O2) battery utilizes a stable sodium-based alloy as the anode and oxygen from body fluids as the cathode component. The proof-of-concept design, tested in rats, demonstrated stable power delivery and compatibility with biological systems.
