Biosecurity New Zealand closed Lake Taupō Aqua Park due to an invasive freshwater gold clam found in a lagoon.

Biosecurity New Zealand has temporarily closed Lake Taupō Aqua Park after finding an invasive freshwater gold clam in its lagoon. The clam's presence was confirmed through an environmental DNA test, and as the lagoon doesn't discharge water into other bodies, human activity is the most likely way it could spread. Surveillance in the surrounding area has been increased, and no other waterways have shown signs of the invasive species.
