India's fiscal deficit widened to ₹15.01 lakh crore in April-February 2024, reaching 86.5% of the revised full-year target, according to official data released on 28 March. The fiscal deficit in the corresponding period of 2022-23 was 82.8% of revised estimates of the Union Budget. For 2023-24, the government's fiscal deficit is estimated at ₹17.35 lakh crore or 5.8% of the GDP.
