25-year-old Bryana Salymar Martines of Shelby was sentenced to 20-25 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for the 2021 killing of 72-year-old Robert Bruce Godfrey in Hickory. Martines and a male co-defendant were found in Godfrey's stolen vehicle in Georgia. The victim's son discovered his father's deceased body at his apartment, which was in disarray, and his car was missing.
