University of Minnesota Duluth selects Charles Nies as next chancellor, pending approval.
Charles Nies, a vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of California, Merced, has been chosen as the next chancellor of the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). Nies, a Minnesota native, is set to begin his role on July 1, pending approval by the University of Minnesota Board of Regents at their May 9 and 10 meeting. Nies will succeed Interim Chancellor Dave McMillan, who has served since Chancellor Lendley Black's retirement in summer 2022.
