Authorities on Cortes Island, BC are investigating a deliberate sabotage of fiber-optic cables which led to extensive damage to internet and data networks. The incident was reported by a manager at City West, a fibre-optic service provider, on March 21st. Initially, it was reported that three cable locations were damaged, but upon inspection, police found that the cables had been severed 17 times, indicating a targeted attack. City West is constructing an underground network on Quadra Island and the surrounding areas to provide communication services to several rural and remote communities, including 48 Indigenous communities.
