28-year-old Jalani Darshawn Nowling was sentenced to life without parole for the December 2022 murder of James Douglas White Jr. in Kalamazoo. Nowling was convicted of first-degree premeditated murder and felony firearm charges. White was shot while in his car on North Burdick Street, where he had gone to buy shoes arranged through Facebook by Nowling. Nowling maintains his innocence.
