A tailor in Thane, Maharashtra was arrested for kidnapping a 9-year-old boy, Ibadat, from Goregaon village while he was returning from evening prayers at a mosque. The kidnapper demanded a ransom of ₹23 lakh, intending to use it to build a house. The kidnapped boy's body was later found in a sack hidden in a villager's home. The accused has been charged with kidnapping or abducting in order to murder under Section 364 of the Indian Penal Code.
