NSW woman fined for not installing smoke alarms in Russell Island home that caught fire, causing deaths and damage.
A NSW woman, Donna Rose Beadel, was fined $667.25 (the maximum penalty) in Queensland for failing to install legally required smoke alarms in a Russell Island home. The home, owned by Beadel, caught fire in August 2023, resulting in the death of a father and his five children. The house fire also destroyed two neighboring homes and left several people with minor injuries from burns and smoke inhalation.
