MTA's Metro-North Railroad receives $2m federal grant for automated rail-car inspection pilot. The U.S. Department of Transportation's SMART Grants program funds the initiative, which will enable Metro-North to conduct daily Federal Railroad Administration-mandated rail-car inspections more efficiently. The automated system uses sensors and software to detect existing and future defects, reducing repair and replacement time.
