Hawaii's Big Island faces potential blackouts until end April due to power plant outages and maintenance issues, with Hawaiian Electric requesting customers, including resort hotels and big retailers, to reduce or shift their electricity usage. The largest disabled generator, meeting almost a third of peak demand, is offline due to mechanical issues. Hawaiian Electric is working with independent power producers to restore full service as quickly as possible.
