DOE selects SSAB for potential funding to build a green hydrogen-based DRI steel plant in Mississippi.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Swedish steelmaker SSAB for potential funding negotiations to construct a manufacturing facility in Perry County, Mississippi. The proposed facility would produce HYBRIT® fossil-free Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) using 100% green hydrogen, supplied by Hy Stor Energy's Mississippi Clean Hydrogen Hub (MCHH). The innovative project aims to bring green hydrogen-based steel production technology to the United States, leading to decreased carbon emissions and the creation of new jobs and innovative technologies in Mississippi.
