An aluminum company, Century Aluminum Co., has chosen northeastern Kentucky as the preferred site for a new aluminum smelter that could bring 1,000 permanent jobs to the region. The smelter will be supported by $500m from the US Department of Energy and has the potential to become the largest investment on record in eastern Kentucky. Governor Andy Beshear said there are still many steps to complete, but this is the first important step towards the project's realization.
