Robbery, extortion, and hijacking offences increased by 26% in the last year, rising from 531 to 2,601 incidents, according to the Central Statistics Office. Theft and related offences also increased by 12% or 8,169 to 74,144 incidents in the last quarter of 2023, with nearly half due to theft from shops. Homicide and related offences decreased by 19% from 80 to 65 incidents over the same period.
