New Zealand and the EU ratified their free trade agreement, set to take effect on May 1.

New Zealand and the European Union (EU) have ratified their free trade agreement, which will come into effect on May 1. The agreement was signed in July 2023 and ratified by the European Parliament in November. It is expected to benefit New Zealand's beef, lamb, butter, and cheese industries, as well as remove tariffs on other exports like kiwi fruit. The EU will see tariffs lifted on its exports, including clothing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and cars, as well as wine and confectionery. The agreement is significant for both parties, with New Zealand's fourth-largest trade partner being the EU, and two-way goods and services trade reaching $12.10 billion in 2022.
