Indian-origin bus service owner, Sundram Retnam, was jailed for 13 weeks and fined SGD 500 for tampering with a speed limiter on his bus to exceed the prescribed speed limit. Retnam's actions, along with those of mechanic Tee Wei Chye, who disabled and reactivated the speed limiter during inspections, potentially compromised road safety. A third man, Teoh Sio Meng, is still facing charges in the case. The prosecution stated that speed limiters are installed in vehicles to prevent them from exceeding the 60 km/h limit, which aims to improve road safety and driving behavior.
