26 people hospitalized in Japan over health damage linked to red yeast rice dietary supplements produced by Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, with six cases of kidney damage reported. The Osaka-based company has recalled three products containing "beni-koji" or red yeast rice, which aims to lower bad cholesterol, after receiving customer complaints. The company is investigating the possibility that the raw materials used to make beni-koji may contain unintended ingredients.
