Austria apologizes and compensates around 11,000 individuals convicted under anti-gay laws until the early 2000s.

Austria offers financial compensation and an official apology to around 11,000 individuals who were convicted under anti-gay laws until the early 2000s. These laws remained in effect after Austria decriminalised homosexuality in 1971. Michael Woditschka, one of the affected individuals, says he will accept the money offered as compensation, but acknowledges that it won't erase what happened.
