The Marcos administration cut government borrowings by 45% to P203 billion at the start of 2024, largely due to a 67% dip in borrowings from foreign lenders. Domestic borrowings declined by 21.08% to P141.51 billion in January, from the P179.3 billion recorded a year ago. Gross borrowings in January amounted to P203.15 billion, lower than the P366.86 billion recorded in the same period last year.
