Los Angeles landmarks, including the Santa Monica Pier's Ferris wheel, and others in Southern California will participate in Earth Hour, a global event to raise awareness of climate change, by turning off their lights for one hour on Saturday from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Initiated by the World Wildlife Fund in 2007, the annual event is held on the last Saturday of March and urges supporters worldwide to spend 60 minutes doing something positive for the planet.
