Indian-origin scientist at Texas A&M University links well-managed or prevented diabetes to reduced dementia risk in Alzheimer's patients, attributing it to a high-fat diet suppressing gut protein expression.
Indian-origin scientist Narendra Kumar at Texas A&M University has found a potential link between well-managed or prevented diabetes and the risk of dementia in Alzheimer's patients. His study, published in the journal 'American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology', reveals that a high-fat diet suppresses the expression of a gut protein called Jak3, leading to inflammation in mice and Alzheimer's-like symptoms. The researchers believe that controlling diabetes could prevent or slow down the progression of Alzheimer's dementia symptoms.
