Australia's plan to construct 1.2 million new homes by 2029 may be hindered by a severe shortage of 90,000 construction workers in the next three months.
A BuildSkills Australia report warns that Australia's plan to construct 1.2 million new homes by 2029 may be hindered by a severe shortage of construction workers. The country needs 90,000 additional construction workers in the next three months to meet the federal government's housing target. Major national infrastructure projects, such as Melbourne's suburban Rail Loop and the Western Sydney Airport, are expected to be most affected by the labor shortfall. Infrastructure Australia predicts that trade and laborer shortages will persist until 2025.
