4-year-old Rehmah Shafiq receives €1.7M interim payout in High Court action against HSE for alleged delay in diagnosing meningitis as a newborn.

4-year-old girl, Rehmah Shafiq, settles her High Court action against the HSE over an alleged unnecessary delay in diagnosing meningitis as a newborn baby with an interim payout of €1.7 million. It was claimed that Rehmah was not screened or started on antibiotics immediately after birth at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, and that there was a failure to recognize signs of sepsis in the first hour of life. Rehmah's counsel stated that the baby should have been given antibiotics sooner, and if she had been, she would not have suffered from meningitis.
