33-year-old Matthew J. Ornellas Jr., an inmate at Kauai Community Correctional Center in Hawaii, escaped and was seriously injured in a hit-and-run shortly after his escape. Ornellas, who was serving time for promoting a dangerous drug, managed to scale a fence with razor wire to escape and was found on Kuhio Highway, around 100 yards from the jail. The driver of the vehicle that hit Ornellas fled before first responders arrived, and authorities are searching for the individual.
