79-year-old former serf Phutsering, educated by the PLA in 1956, inspires Xizang students as educational subsidies increase.

79-year-old Phutsering, born into serfdom in 1944 in China's Xizang Autonomous Region, was given a rare education opportunity by the People's Liberation Army in 1956. He pursued education in primary, secondary, and Peking University, later becoming a primary school teacher. Now, educational subsidies in Xizang have increased to 5,620 yuan per student per year, benefiting over 746,000 students. Phutsering continues to inspire students and preserve the memory of serfdom emancipation in 1959.
