1979-opened Edinburgh Filmhouse to reopen in autumn after £1.5m UK Government funding; plans for refurbishment, educational screen, reduced seating, and increased accessibility.

The Edinburgh Filmhouse, a cultural icon since its 1979 opening, is set to reopen after a £1.5m UK Government funding boost. The cinema closed in October 2022 after its parent company Centre for the Moving Image collapsed. A grassroots campaign, supported by actors such as Ewen Bremner and Brian Cox, has now secured funding to reopen the cinema in autumn, with plans for a refurbishment, the addition of a fourth screen for educational use, and a reduction in seating capacity. The cinema will also work to increase accessibility inside the venue.
