Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has declared a state of disaster in 23 out of 28 districts due to El Nino-related food shortages, flooding, and dry spells. The disaster has affected approximately 2 million farming households, requiring 600,000 metric tons of humanitarian assistance, costing an estimated K357.6 billion. Chakwera has called for assistance from national and international organizations, as well as the private sector, to support those affected.
