Blommer Chocolate Company closes Chicago manufacturing plant due to aging facility costs.
Blommer Chocolate Company is closing its Chicago manufacturing plant, originally opened in 1939, due to increasing costs of running its aging facility. The decision was made due to the location and age of the plant, coupled with increased repair and maintenance costs, which have led to production reliability issues. The company's corporate headquarters, lab, and a new research and development center will remain in downtown Chicago at the Merchandise Mart.
