2022 Zimbabwe marriage certificates may be invalid due to citing old law instead of new Marriages Act.
Hundreds of marriage certificates issued in Zimbabwe after September 2022 may be "null and void" due to citing an invalid law, according to the Law Society of Zimbabwe. The new Marriages Act (Chapter 5:17) introduced in 2022 has not been properly reflected on the certificates, which continue to cite the old Marriage Act (Chapter 5:11). The Law Society of Zimbabwe has urged couples to check their marriage certificates and get them corrected if necessary.
