26-year-old ultra-endurance athlete Nick Pelletier, from Kelowna, BC, had to abandon his attempt to swim across the Molokai Channel in Hawaii due to jellyfish stings. Despite being aware of the potential dangers of sharks in the channel, Pelletier was caught off-guard by the jellyfish population. The swimmer had been in the water for over 13 hours when the jellyfish stings became unbearable, forcing him to quit the challenge.
