Senior BJD leader and former Odisha Minister Damodar Rout passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on 22 March, after suffering a cardiac arrest on 18 March. Rout, an 81-year-old veterinary doctor, had a 50-year-long political career and served in Naveen Patnaik's cabinet four times. President Droupadi Murmu and Odisha Chief Minister Navin Patnaik expressed their condolences on Rout's passing, praising his contributions to Odisha and the country. Rout was expelled from the BJD in 2018 due to allegations of anti-party activities before being reinstated in January 2024.
